Sagging and wrinkled skin is a problem of both men and women once they hit middle-age. This is an inevitable phenomenon that will eventually happen to each and every one of us. Wrinkles are signs of aging thus the more wrinkles we have, the older we look. This is why a lot of people, especially women, start to use wrinkle creams as soon as they see some wrinkles forming. Who would want to look old in the first place?
One of the main supports of the skin is collagen. As we grow older, collagen stores start to become depleted while skin cells also become older. The old cells, together with the depleted collagen stores cause the skin to lose its elastic property. Without its elasticity, the skin will not be able to return to its original shape. Instead, it starts to sag when stretched. Repeated stretching of the skin will eventually cause wrinkles due to the sagging skin.
Wrinkle creams contain substances that are proven to reverse the effects of skin aging. Some examples of these include hydroxy acids, retinol, matrixyl, copper peptidases and tretinoin. Hydroxy acids and tretinoin work by exfoliating the skin to remove the upper layer and stimulate production of new cells. Retinol is an antioxidant which helps get rid of free radicals in the skin which contributes to wrinkle formation. Matrixyl and copper peptidases both work to stimulate the healing process and regeneration of tissue.
Aside from regeneration and production of new cells, creams also have a hydrating property which prevents the drying of skin. Dry skin would lead to the formation of more wrinkles as it will be prone to cracking. A better hydrated skin will always be more elastic and thus more resistant to the formation of wrinkles.
Other alternatives in eliminating wrinkles include facial exercises or procedures such as getting a facelift. Facial exercises are an effective way to eliminate wrinkles, but it would take a lot of effort and discipline as it would take a very long time for you to observe the results. Getting a facelift on the other hand, is also effective in eliminating wrinkles while taking a short amount of time, but it would cost a lot of money.
One way to make sure that wrinkle creams work on you is by trying out several different products. Some people give up as soon as they see that one product does not work for them. Different creams contain different ingredients and you just have to find one that is effective for you. Normally, creams would start to give results as early as two weeks or up to a month.
